I am honored to serve as a director of IPA starting in 2024. As the main promoter and constructor of Taiwan's press-in piling method, this also means that the development of Taiwan's press-in piling method in recent years has been widely recognized.

During my tenure as Chairman of Chuen Chang Enterprise, we have completed more than 350 press-in piling projects since the introduction of the SILENT PILER™ in 2009. Public works account for about 30% among this. The public works is mainly used in various types of cases such as urban flood control, MRT, electric power facilities, government buildings, etc. In the remaining 70%-- the private projects, this method is more widely used in the construction of high buildings in cities and numerous high-tech factories.

Taiwan has been using steel sheet piles for at least 40 years and is one of the earliest countries in Asia to widely use these materials. It also has very mature technology in traditional vibratory piling. However, the noise and vibration of vibratory piling have long caused certain harm to neighboring buildings and residents. Every year, there are many cases of neighboring buildings damage caused by vibratory piling, and residents often protest because of the unbearable noise.

Before the press-in piling method was introduced, these hazards could only be accepted to occur. From the time I introduced the first SILENT PILER to now, the number of press-in piling cases has grown rapidly, which further proves the advantages of the press-in piling method and the market's recognition of this method.

I estimate that the total number of steel sheet piles of various lengths driven in various projects in Taiwan each year should be at least 500,000 pcs. Although the press-in piling method has grown rapidly in decades, the total proportion of that should be less than 5%. I believe that this method still has more to grow in the future.

Of course, I also believe that with the centralization of urban development, the advantages of press-in piling method can be adopted in more area around the world.

David is the president of the Chuen Chang Enterprise Group. Before joining the company in 2007, he worked at the Taiwan Space Agency, a government organization that specializes in design and manufacture satellites for the country. Since joining Chuen Chang, in addition to continuously improving the company's management system, he has also been committed to thinking about the future of earth retaining methods and actively introducing various advanced methods. Because of his forward-looking vision and excellent management, Chuen Chang business scale has increased rapidly and has been widely recognized by the industry in the fundamental engineering profession.  Especially in the press-in piling method, it is Taiwan's leading piling company.

In addition to engineering construction, Chuen Chang also actively participates in seminars organized by various engineering organizations, and is not stingy in sharing professional insights and construction guidelines for deep foundation excavation projects.
