50 Years of the SILENT PILER™ - Advancing Sustainable Construction with Press-in piling Technology
In July 2025, the SILENT PILER™, a hydraulic press-in piling machine, marked its 50th anniversary since its initial development in 1975. This technology challenged conventional construction practices by enabling the installation and extraction of piles with significantly reduced noise and vibration—meeting the growing need for environmentally conscious and community-friendly construction.
Over the past five decades, more than 100 models of the SILENT PILER™ have been developed, with total production exceeding 4,000 units. The press-in piling technology has been adopted in over 40 countries and regions worldwide, contributing to infrastructure development in urban areas, disaster recovery efforts, and projects in environmentally or spatially constrained sites such as riverbanks and waterfronts.

Social challenges such as aging populations, deteriorating infrastructure, and skilled labor shortages are not unique to Japan; they are now global in scale. In this context, press-in piling technology has gained increasing international attention as a sustainable and efficient solution, particularly for difficult sites where conventional methods fall short.
GIKEN LTD., the developer of the SILENT PILER™, has continued to pursue innovation as a development-based company, creating not only new machines but also novel construction methods and structural systems. These advancements have helped address complex challenges in construction environments around the world, supporting the realization of a more resilient and sustainable society.
As an organization dedicated to promoting press-in piling technology, the International Press-in Association (IPA) will continue to foster collaboration among researchers, engineers, and practitioners worldwide. We remain committed to advancing safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure through the continued development and dissemination of press-in piling technologies.
