The International Press-in Association (IPA) successfully hosted the “IPA Seminar on Press-in Technology in Jakarta” on April 15, 2026, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The seminar was organized in collaboration with Himpunan Ahli Teknik Tanah Indonesia (HATTI) and Himpunan Ahli Konstruksi Indonesia (HAKI), with the support of six Co-Organizers, one endorsing organization, and sponsorship from four Gold Sponsors and two Silver Sponsors.
Under the theme “Innovative Infrastructure Development,” the seminar was held against the backdrop of ongoing infrastructure expansion in Indonesia and the broader ASEAN region. The event aimed to promote the understanding and application of press-in piling technology while fostering collaboration among academia, industry, and government. It also served as a platform for supporting sustainable infrastructure development through knowledge sharing and international cooperation.
The seminar featured a series of technical presentations delivered by experts from various sectors. Following an introduction to the activities and global outlook of IPA, presentations provided a systematic overview of design and construction practices based on Press-in Retaining Structures: A Handbook, Second Edition (2021). Contributions also included presentations on design standards in Indonesia, case studies of construction projects in dense urban environments, and experiences with the application of press-in piling technology across ASEAN countries. These presentations reflected regional conditions and practical challenges, offering insights into the adaptability of the technology.
In addition, the seminar highlighted recent technological developments, including innovations in press-in piling methods, applications of hat-type steel sheet piles, and approaches to improving the durability of concrete piles. The breadth of topics demonstrated the multidisciplinary nature of press-in engineering and its relevance to contemporary infrastructure challenges.
The event brought together a total of 205 participants from five countries—Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, and Japan—including researchers, engineers, government officials, industry practitioners, and students. The seminar was characterized by active engagement throughout, with lively discussions following each presentation and during networking sessions. The strong interest shown by participants reflected growing attention to infrastructure development in Indonesia and the region. The seminar also provided valuable opportunities for interdisciplinary exchange and contributed to strengthening international professional networks.
Through the diverse presentations and discussions, the seminar reinforced the importance of advancing press-in piling technology as a practical and sustainable solution for infrastructure development. It also highlighted the value of continued collaboration and knowledge exchange across regions. IPA will continue to promote such initiatives to address regional challenges and support the future development of sustainable infrastructure worldwide.
